We held our launch meeting last night, which brought together people interested in setting up a hackspace in Cardiff, which is an idea that’s been talked about for a while. Almost a dozen showed up, and several others have registered their interest, so we’re off to a pretty good start.

We also have a pretty good range of skills – over half of us have experience and an interest n electronics, and most of us have some background in software development. I can’t wait to see what projects come out of this. Our group is open to anyone with an interest in technology, and I hope it will attract others who want to learn stuff.

We have already decided the following:
1. Hackspace Cardiff will be established as a legal entity, which helps with the admin, funds, liabilities, etc.
2. The hackspace will be a shared effort between us, and likely any others who want to get involved and share the responsibility.
3. We’re aiming to rent of buy a small space which we can expand as membership increases.
4. Meetings will be held weekly, at least for the near future.
5. The business with the domain and web space appears to be sorted already.

In the meantime, anyone else who might be interested can visit the current Hackspace Cardiff page which we’re updating regularly, add their names, follow us on Twitter, etc. and join us at the next meeting in just over a week.
